The sack count was spread out a lot more,” Roche said. My role on the team was a little bit different. “People who really understand football, they’ll see that the scheme was a little bit different. Roche didn’t put up quite the same numbers at Miami that he did at Temple, but he downplayed sack totals as the be-all and end-all. Roche considered turning pro after the 2019 season but ultimately decided to prove that he could produce at the Power Five level as a graduate transfer before entering the draft. “That’s one of the things that he used to harp on with me a lot is just bringing somebody with you, trying to bring your teammates with you so they can be just as successful after you leave as they were when you were there.” ![]() “And that’s one of the things that he preaches - approaching every day like you’re a professional and demanding the best out of your team, because he’s big on leadership and how you affect other people. “Just kind of approaching every day as a professional, approaching every day like it’s your last day - not ever getting complacent, not ever getting comfortable with where you are in your current position,” Roche said. Reed went on to accumulate 64 interceptions during his 12-year pro career, seventh in NFL history, and won a Super Bowl ring with the Ravens. The following spring, Reed was one of five Hurricanes taken in the first round along with Bryant McKinnie, Jeremy Shockey, Phillip Buchanon and Mike Rumph. Reed, who posted 21 interceptions during his college career, helped lead Miami to the national championship in 2001. Ed Reed, to be able to have him as a coach, to be able to seek advice, to have him as a mentor is priceless.” “Pregame, I used to watch Ray Lewis pump-up videos. He was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2019 and was hired by Miami in early 2020 he works as an adviser to head coach Manny Diaz in his current role. He posted 4.5 sacks, 14.5 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles in 10 games for the Hurricanes this past fall, forming a productive pass-rush duo with Jaelan Phillips for a Miami team that went 8-3. The 6-foot-3, 245-pound Roche racked up 26 sacks, 39.5 tackles for loss and six forced fumbles at Temple from 2017-2019, then transferred to Miami for the 2020 season. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections are based on the idea that the body’s natural response to injury is a healing process at the site of tissue damage. Injectable biologics are natural products that are harvested to supplement the biology of healing. In recent years there has been a shift in the focus of the non-surgical treatment of knee arthritis – looking for a biologic solution to try and enhance cartilage repair and functional recovery. Patients older than 65 and those with more significant arthritis tend to have worse results compared to younger patients with less severe disease. A number of clinical studies have demonstrated a reduction in knee arthritis pain and improved knee motion and function in patients with a duration of effectiveness lasting 6-12 months – longer term benefit compared to steroid injections. HA injections are safe with no known risk of drug interactions and have been shown to be most effective in mild to moderate knee arthritis. Injecting synthetic HA into an arthritic knee joint is believed to stimulate the production of new HA by the body, to improve joint lubrication and shock absorption, has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties and can help protect the joint cartilage from further wear and tear. Without normal joint fluid, patients with cartilage wear experience inflammation, pain and swelling. The concept behind HA injections is that patients with knee arthritis have a limited ability to produce normal joint fluid – the material that lubricates and nourishes joint cartilage. Hyaluronic Acid (HA) viscosupplementation injections – often called gel shots or lubricant shots – have gained increased attention and utilization in the last 10 years. Corticosteroid injections remain an important tool for the orthopedic surgeon to control symptoms in patients with knee arthritis but they are often considered a short term treatment of a chronic problem. Additionally, steroid injections are associated with potential side effects including skin depigmentation, local fat atrophy, a temporary increase in blood sugar level in patients with diabetes and the potential for a negative impact on joint cartilage over time following repeated injections. Studies have shown that the beneficial effect of a steroid injection typically diminishes within 3 months. While steroid injections commonly result in symptom improvement within a few days, their effectiveness reduces with time. Corticosteroids provide acute pain relief by reducing the extent of inflammation of the joint lining (synovitis). ![]() Intra-articular corticosteroid injections have been used to treat symptomatic arthritic joints for more than 50 years. With this feature, reminders will show up on the lock screen, or are available from the pull-down notification menu. Reminders can then provide alerts to the user when they arrive near a destination, and take full advantage of Apple's new notification system in iOS 5. Users must approve the ability for the iPhone to track their location and provide a reminder. Setting a reminder based on location prompts users to allow the Reminders app to use a location - either their current one, or an address manually entered. They can also be repeated daily, weekly, every two weeks, every month, or every year, and ranked with priorities of low, medium or high. Options include "Remind Me," "Due," "Priority," "List," and "Delete." Reminders can also be tied to a day, or to a specific location. Once a reminder is created, custom options are available, including location awareness, and whether to alert the user when they arrive or when they leave. Hitting the plus in the upper right of the screen allows users to add items to a to-do list. A tally of completed items then adds up at the top of the list, and these are dynamically updated with other services, including iCal and Outlook. Racial violence broke out in some of the nation’s most populous cities.Ī four-day riot in Washington, D.C. Many of the dozens of incidents that occurred over the course of the year were made far worse because local, state and federal officials hesitated in taking action or turned a blind eye to the violence. Ordinary white civilians and veterans, unaffiliated with the Ku Klux Klan or any other racist organization, formed most of the mobs. Most violent incidents during the Red Summer of 1919 were not initiated by fringe white supremacist terror groups. Griffith’s 1915 film The Birth of a Nation, skyrocketed into the millions by the early 1920s. Membership in the revived Ku Klux Klan, reborn after D.W. Lynchings increased from 64 in 1918 to 83 in 1919. Du Bois famously called upon Black veterans to not simply “return from fighting” but to “return fighting.” Many Black veterans were mistreated, and in some cases, attacked while in uniform. Many Black leaders encouraged returning servicemen to assert themselves and fight for the dignity and respect they had earned through their military service. Many Whites feared that the return of tens of thousands of Black veterans, with experience living abroad and, more significantly, having received military training, would be unwilling to resubmit to traditional political and social subjugation in the U.S. Many officials and others, with little or no evidence, suspected Black workers of being pawns of Bolsheviks and anarchists. The situation was made worse in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution of 1917. Black laborers already suffered from a negative reputation in the White working community for their use as low wage-earning strike breakers, or “scabs,” who would keep factories in operation while the employees went on strike. When the war ended many returning servicemen resented that their vacated jobs had been taken, particularly by African Americans. In many cases, northern Whites-many of them newly arrived immigrants themselves-did not welcome Black newcomers. By the summer of 1919, approximately 500,000 African Americans had resettled in northern cities. World War I intensified the Great Migration, the mass emigration of African Americans from the rural South to the industrial North and Midwest in hopes of escaping the poverty and discrimination of Jim Crow laws. Competition for opportunities in postwar America combined with a radically changed social landscape placed Whites and Blacks in conflict with one another, leading to tragic results. were exacerbated by the discharge of millions of military personnel back to their homes and domestic lives following the end of the war. An outbreak of racial violence known as the “Red Summer” occurred in 1919, an event that affected at least 26 cities across the United States.
